Harris Millerd joined the US Air Force in 1968 and served in Turkey and England as a radio relay equipment specialist. Through his talent and leadership, he was transferred to the White House Communications Agency during the Nixon, Ford, and Carter administrations. While serving at the White House, Millerd transferred to the Army. He returned to the White House and worked closely with Presidents Reagan and Bush, Sr., accompanying the presidents on their trips abroad and ensuring uninterrupted communication with the U.S.
After retiring from civilian service in 2015, Millerd volunteered at the Thomson-Hood veteran center in Wilmore, Kentucky, as a medical escort, craft room attendant, and gift shop attendant. He’s also served as Treasurer of the Lexington chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, worked with veterans receiving services through Bluegrass Care Navigators, and is the Executive Director of the Honor Flight Kentucky.
