Cortez Day joined the Air Force in 1957, and served in Vietnam and the Saudi Arabian Sand Desert. As a radio operator and cryptographic operator, he obtained top secret clearance, leaving the military in 1961.
Day’s activities with the Military Freedom Group have included fundraising for the trailer and sound system on the float that is used in various veteran parades in the area. He aided in the implementation of multiple Veterans’ Day Celebrations at Lexington’s Legends Park. He worked with the Military Honors Ceremony as a part of the POW/MIA rite, and was a longtime supporter of the annual Military Freedom Fest Fundraiser. Cortez helped in purchasing dinners during the holidays for families of deployed military men and women, and has helped honor over 6100 Kentucky veterans through the Military Freedom Fest.
