Estill, William R.

1812 - 1875


Colonel William R. Estill was born on his father's farm in Madison County around 1812, the son of Captain James Estill.  After Colonel Estill's marriage to Harriett Hughes (daughter of Jacob Hughes - which see), he purchased a large farm on the Winchester Pike in Fayette County and operated an extensive cattle and mule raising concern.  During the Civil War, he supplied a number of mules to the Union Army.  Mr. Estill was one of the founding directors of the First National Bank in 1865, serving until his death in 1875.
